i-to-i Foundation How your donation helped in 2006In 2006 the i-to-i Foundation made significant donations to eight of our most disadvantaged projects: based business home income
-
We bought two computers for use in a school in
Tanzania Benefit:
They have helped prepare lessons in line with the syllabus, provided students with access to diagrams, pictures, photographs and text which was previously impossible, secure student data and given pupils access to the modern world based business home internet
-
We installed a bore hole at the Grandsons of
Abraham rehabilitation program in Kenya Benefit:
In the long term, the bore hole will benefit the lives of more than 300 children, up to 15 staff who look after them and the wider community business homebased opportunity
-
We paid for the renovation and refurbishment of a
medical clinic in Tanzania Benefit:
This has allowed the resources to be centred reliably in one area, thus improving the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare services. This is a vast improvement for the community who now have access to healthcare and advice which was previously fragmented and sporadic based business home mlm
-
We provided the turtle conservation project in
Costa Rica with a base radio unit Benefit:
Walkie Talkies have benefitted the project in a number of ways such as project security and communication. Volunteers can communicate with each other instead of using hand signals that poachers often mimic to their gain, emergency services can be contacted in the event of an incident and communications are now possible with other projects around the country business new opportunity
-
We paid for the installation of a water tank at an
animal rehabilitation centre in Australia Benefit:
This project currently supports 300 animals and over 35 volunteers annually and the new water tank has allowed the project to expand while supporting an increase in animals and volunteers business home online
-
We paid for the construction of a community centre
in Brazil Benefit:
Once this building is complete, it will create a lasting, permanent and reliable place for the project activities to take place. This means instead of being scattered inconsistently throughout the community, they will soon be able to identify the project and their classes with the new community centre best business home opportunity
- We paid for the installment of twenty toilets at a school in India
-
Benefit:
These toilets have improved the hygiene and sanitary conditions for these impoverished students as well as their self esteem. It is hoped that this will serve as an example of how a low cost model can help make dramatic differences and encourage similar projects business investment

How to Interact with Foreign Cultures on Your Gap YearIt s amazing how many people travel to a foreign country and don t interact at all with the local people. Tourists go to exotic all inclusive resorts where they never need to meet a local person or speak one word of the native language. Even at some volunteer projects, travellers may find themselves living and working with fellow volunteers, gravitating toward the comfort of what they know. based business free home
But interacting with local people is an important part of the gap year experience. It is through meeting people and learning about cultures that you will get a real understanding of a place, so if you don t do it you ll really be missing out. To help you fully interact with the local culture, we ve put together some handy tips business internet online
Try to speak the local languageBefore you go on your gap year, you should make an effort to learn a few basic phrases. Simple phrases like hello, excuse me, please and thank you will go a long way. Once you re in-country, you will learn how to communicate quickly but it s important that you do a little preparation before you go as well. Even if the local people speak English, try to make an effort to speak their language. It will help you learn and they ll appreciate your effort. best business opportunity
Be open mindedBe open to new ideas. Try new things. Try to understand someone else s point of view. You may not understand why the people in your host country do things the way they do but the whole point of a gap year is to give yourself the opportunity to find out. Ask them (politely of course) why they do things the way they do. Try to have a discussion (not a debate), listen to their opinions and be respectful of their answers. Things might not make much sense to you, but if you just write it off as wrong you won t learn anything. business computer home
Don t go abroad thinking that your country is the best and the way you do things is the only or right way to do it. You re going to another country to explore and learn about other cultures, so don t be condescending or pass judgment on the things you find there. Avoid words like right or wrong, better or worse. business idea opportunity
Remember that their beliefs are right by them and that you are the minority in their culture. To go around criticising their beliefs and the way they do things is arrogant and impolite. You re there to help, to interact and to learn, so be willing to do so. based business home online
Live with a host familyIf possible, arrange a homestay while you re away on your gap year. Living with a local family will give you the chance to interact with the community on a different level. You may spend your days working alongside local carpenters or in a classroom with local schoolchildren, but living with a host family lets you see what goes on outside the normal work day. You ll have the chance to eat typical meals, celebrate holidays, see how families interact and get a general feel of the common home life. business federal opportunity
Staying in a homestay can help alleviate homesickness as well. You ll probably be treated like a member of the family. Your host mum may dote on you, ask you how your day was when you get home, take care of you when you re sick and express motherly love and affections. based business home legitimate
Living in a homestay is also a good way to fill in the gaps of your volunteer work. Maybe you work with adults but not children, children but not adults. A homestay gives you the opportunity to interact with all the members of a family and get a well rounded view of the culture. business home mlm opportunity
Seek the unfamiliarDon t make the mistake of only associating with people from your home country. I m not saying you shouldn t make friends with your fellow gap year travellers - indeed, this is the perfect way to develop lasting friendships - but you ll be missing out if they are the only people you hang around with. The point is that you shouldn t limit yourself by keeping only to what is familiar. Make friends with the local people as well. business home idea internet
By the same token, don t seek the familiar when it comes to food and other routines. You won t get to know the local culture by eating in a McDonald s and keeping to the overpriced tourist areas. Eat the local cuisine, shop in the market, stray away from places that speak lots of English. Make an effort to befriend local people and they ll offer you insight into why their culture is so unique. based business from home
Taking a gap year is a great opportunity to explore a new culture, meet new people and change your perspectives so don t miss out! business make money online

A little history Deirdre Bounds, founder of i-to-i explains where we came from...In order to view this video, please upgrade to the latest flash player by clicking here. I had no idea when I stepped on a plane fifteen years ago that my career break would lead to starting a travel company that touches thousands of lives per year. That flight to find the real world took me to teach English in Japan, China and Greece and drive a backpackers bus in Sydney. I went eye-to-eye with fascinating cultures and travellers. But then I decided that it was time to come home and face the music - Eureka! affiliate business opportunity
But the music I kept hearing as I sat in my one room apartment in Leeds (UK) was there has to be a way to help others to have the same travel and life experiences that I did, but make it much easier . business income opportunity
So I started i-to-i with no business experience but loads of passion. My weekend TEFL courses eventually led to organising volunteer projects. Now, I m a firm believer that commerce and ethics can mix which is why i-to-i is a commercial enterprise. My motivation was that a well run business could help change the world with a focus on customer service, firm goals and determined people. business opportunity unlimited
Give it backHowever on a challenging trip to Nepal in 2003 I was faced with the sad circumstances of a young baby who was abandoned in an orphanage. This trip gave me the inspiration to launch the i-to-i Foundation, a registered charity committed to providing funds to the most needy community and ecological projects in the i-to-i family. This has gone from strength to strength with large amounts being raised and donated by i-to-i. business opportunity seeker
How we ve grown Meeting a monkAnd I can t believe my eyes that it has now grown into an international organisation with offices in the UK, USA, Ireland and Australia, with a worldwide team of 130 passionate, dedicated travel-lovers. I m truly proud that i-to-i is now responsible for sending around 5000 people a year to support 500 worthwhile projects in 5 continents and we also train a further 15, 000 people as TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teachers, sending 500 of them into paid teaching projects abroad. business opportunity travel

The money you pay us for your placement does not directly fund the projects we work with. We do not believe that it is ethical or defensible for us to pay the projects we work with a fee per volunteer like some other volunteer travel companies do. We also refuse to set up our own projects just to meet the demands of international volunteers - a regrettably common practice amongst many volunteer organisations. ALL of the projects we work with have been set up by local community groups, NGO s or government bodies. They are sustainable, independent and set their own goals and objectives. What we offer is support and human assistance, not financial aid. business opportunity uk
WhyLet s say that this year Kenya is a popular country for i-to-i travellers. Kenyan projects would receive a large amount of money because of the influx of foreign volunteers and the cash that they represent. business opportunity rest
But the next year, Costa Rica becomes popular, and the flow of volunteers and cash to the projects we work with in Kenya stops. What happens to the Kenyan projects that have become reliant on that money business find home opportunity
Our experience has taught us that projects can get used to having fewer volunteers, but when the money stops projects struggle. Long terms plans have to be put on hold and the good work they are doing falls by the wayside. business opportunity woman
This boom and bust model of international involvement leads to aid-reliance, financial instability and the continued belief in the subordinate nature of the third world . If all the fight against poverty took were sending piles of dollars to poor countries, surely things would be getting better business income internet
We believe that it is vitally important to maintain this non-payment approach for your services to ensure that overseas projects want i-to-i travelers for the right reasons: to help the projects meet their aims, not as a means to generate funds. based business computer home
Projects desperately need human resources to sustain their work but their staff do not have the time or facilities to recruit, advise and look after your needs. That is where i-to-i comes in, we look after that part for them and ensure a manageable stream of willing, prepared and supported volunteers. based business from home home
How do we support the projects we work withApart from over 1 million hours of active participation in volunteer projects across the world, we also have a registered charity - The i-to-i Foundation . In the last two years the Foundation has distributed $200, 000 to support the projects we work with. In this way the projects we work with can gain access to the necessary funds to expand and improve, but they do not become reliant on drip-fed financial aid for their continued existence. business now com opportunity
