Worldwide Online Gambling Revenues to Top $10 Billion in 2005

November 15, 2005 -- NEW YORK, NY Revenues from worldwide online gambling will top $10 billion in 2005, according to a new report from eMarketer. US consumers are spending roughly twenty times the amount on gambling pursuits that they spend on digital music downloads, and some ten times higher than another well-known vice online porn. That's a lot of chips on tables everywhere.
"Online gambling is quickly moving to the mainstream, and it's being driven by the televised poker craze and growth of broadband," says Ben Macklin, Senior Analyst at eMarketer and author of the Online Gambling report.

Business Home Internet Nearly 20 million US Internet users visited gambling or sweepstake Web Sites in February 2005, equating to nearly 15% of all US Internet users, according to Nielsen//NetRatings data. In Europe, 14 million Internet users visited gambling/sweepstake sites, with the largest number of users originating from Germany. As a percentage of Internet users, however, France and Sweden top the list.

For fiscal year 2006, Citrix reported annual revenues of $1.134 billion, compared to $909 million in 2005, a 25% increase. For fiscal year 2007, the company expects net revenues to be around $1.31 billion. For the first quarter of 2007, Citrix reported revenues of $308 million, compared to $260 million in the first quarter of 2006, an 18% revenue growth.

Business Mlm Opportunity More recent data from comScore Media Metrix showed that in July 2005 30 million US Internet users (18% of all Internet users) visited gambling sites that month. This is comparable to the number of Internet users who visit retail music sites and is double the number who visited gambling sites in December 2001.

New figures from the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) have revealed that the cost of red tape to British business has risen to over á50 billion in 2006, compared with á39 billion in 2005 and á10 billion in 2001.

"Poker has received all the headlines over the last few years, but the online gambling sector is much more than just poker," says Mr. Macklin. "It consists of online sports betting, online betting exchanges, online wagering on horse races, online casinos, online lotteries, online bingo, online skill games played for cash and more."

Business Standard states its current SME balance stance at á0.8 billion, 15 per cent of its revenue. Sandeep Ghosh, directoprt and business manager for the bank, "SME banking contributes 38 per cent of (Citigroup's) wholesale banking wallet in India, estimated at $5.2 billion (á2.7 billion). "It is considered to be the largest and fastest growing segment." Meanwhile, HSBC is another bank starting to focus on SMEs with more than half of its customers currently banking online.

    Operating income for fourth quarter 2006 increased 10% to $39.9 million compared to $36.2 million reported for the same period in 2005.

  • Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization ("EBITDA") year 2006 increased 15% to $176 million from $153 million in 2005. EBITDA for fourth quarter 2006 was $42.3 million, an increase of 10% compared to $38.5 million reported for the same period in 2005.
